2025 Community Awards Spotlight – Maeve Kerwin
Maeve Kerwin – Inspiring Youth
The second recipient of the Inspiring Youth honour this year is Maeve Kerwin.
This award recognizes and celebrates the incredible achievements of youth aged 12 to 21 in Mississippi Mills who inspire and motivate others or who demonstrate outstanding initiative.
Maeve is a Mississippi Mills youth who is willing to go above and beyond for her community and whose volunteerism began at an early age with the Girl Guides organization.
As a volunteer with the Almonte Civitan Club’s weekly bingo nights for three years, she quickly became a strong leader for the Almonte Junior Civitan when it was reestablished two years ago. She led the Junior Civitan as president in 2023-2024 and continues as past president.
Also a member of the Mississippi Mills Youth Centre, Maeve was a key member of the THRIVE committee, facilitating the Next Gen Leaders workshop and participated in a presentation to Mississippi Mills Council.
As a student at Almonte District High School, she has thrived in various team sports, including Gaelic football, volleyball, curling, skiing and badminton as well as sitting on student council, athletic council, Relay for Life team, fundraising for food drives and volunteering at school events. Maeve is also a student ambassador, helping international students adjust to life at ADHS and gain a sense of belonging. Responsible and respectful, she has learned to balance many responsibilities while accumulating more than 830 community service hours! (Maeve, do you sleep?)
Here's what Maeve’s nominators had to say about her:
“Over nearly three years, I have had the privilege of working with many youth and seen them grow into confident and contributing members of our community. One such youth who has stood out is Maeve Kerwin. Maeve has demonstrated herself to be a confident and caring leader who is passionate about our town.”
“Over the years I have watched her excel in many areas, including academics and athletics, and despite the time and energy that success in these areas requires, Maeve has always been equally dedicated to making a difference in her community through volunteering…Maeve is an exceptional young person whose desire to serve is inspiring. She has certainly enriched the lives of many in our community.”
Well done, Maeve! Thank you for your service to the community.
