2025 Community Awards Spotlight – Doris Rankin
Doris Rankin – Community Builder
Our final feature is on Community Builder Doris Rankin.
This award recognizes outstanding individuals who have made long-lasting contributions to the well-being of the Municipality and have exhibited leadership, vision and commitment to positive change.
A shining example of community spirit, Doris has been a pillar of the Pakenham community for decades through her leadership, vision and positivity. Whether through her involvement in community projects, supporting local families and seniors or her tireless volunteer work with Pakenham clubs and organizations, Doris always puts the needs of community first.
Doris is a founding member of the Pakenham & District Civitan Club and has been instrumental in the organization’s development, having held the roles as treasurer and president.
Over the years she has spearheaded many events for the club, including the Pakenham Frost Festival, community barbecues, floats in the Canada Day Eve and Santa Claus parades and the popular Gift Basket Auction, to name a few.
Doris somehow also finds time to volunteer with other groups in the community, including:
- A founding member of Bridging Generations – Age-Friendly Pakenham
- An active member of St. Mark’s Anglican Church
- Helped coordinate the ‘Save our School’ campaign for Pakenham Public School
- Fundraised for renovations to the Pakenham Branch of the Mississippi Mills Public Library
- Served as a member of the Mississippi Mills Bicentennial Pakenham committee, helping organize several events
This just scratches the surface of Doris’ unwavering dedication to making her community a better place to live.
Here’s what Doris’ nominators had to say about her:
“Many years ago, long-time Pakenham resident Gerv Ryan coined the phrase, “Something of interest, anytime of the year,” to describe the vibrant spirit of our community. Doris Rankin has taken that phrase to heart and made it a living reality through her tireless volunteer efforts and deep-rooted pride in Pakenham…Doris ensures there is always something happening – something meaningful, engaging and inclusive – for everyone in our community, all year round.”
“You name it – Doris not only knows about it, she knows what help is needed, how to connect the right people and has likely already offered her support. She has a rare talent for bringing people together around a shared vision. She listens with compassion, leads with integrity and inspires action in others through her example…”
Congratulations, Doris, on this well-deserved recognition.
