Warden’s Golf Tournament Supports Active Kids, Bright Futures Program

The 2026 Lanark County Warden’s Golf Tournament on August 14 was a great success, with 138 golfers participating and approximately $13,515 raised for the new Active Kids, Bright Futures initiative.

The program, proposed by Warden Richard Kidd (Beckwith Reeve), approved by Lanark County Council and administered through Lanark County Social Services, aims to support low-income children and youth in the county to become more engaged in communities through participation in sports, arts and club-based activities.

“We know that when children have the opportunity to take part in community and structured activities it can have a significant positive effect in their lives,” Kidd said.

In addition to participation by golfers at Timber Run Golf Club, sponsors played a key role in the tournament’s success. The title sponsors this year were Cavanagh Construction, Vice and Hunter LLP, Partham Engineering and The Graham-Dixon Group, BMO Nesbitt Burns. Active Kids, Bright Futures will give Lanark County Social Services caseworkers an additional, flexible tool to help parents support their children ages 17 and under by engaging them in extracurricular activities. Families can complete a simple application with support from a caseworker, and eligible households would be able to access up to $500 per child per year, with payments made directly to service providers. Activities can include such things as football, soccer, baseball, dance, 4-H, Girl Guides, music lessons, art classes, instructional summer camps and more.

“I sincerely thank everyone who helped to make the 2026 Warden’s Golf Tournament a big success,” Kidd said. “We had a great turnout of golfers, and special thanks goes to all of the sponsors. Your generosity is helping to make recreational programs in the community more accessible for kids who otherwise would be unable to take part.”
