The Mississippi Mills Liaison Committee – We’re Here to Help

From the Mississippi Mills Liaison Committee
In the early 1990s, Karen Slater was a Director of the Almonte Community Development Corporation, the forerunner of The Mills and now known as Carebridge Community Support.
She founded the Mississippi Mills Group Liaison Committee by convening an informal meeting of interested community service groups and churches to explore ways to deal with the needs of people in our community. The meeting was productive and over time, the Mississippi Mills Liaison Committee (MMLC) was born.
Today, the membership of the MMLC comprises representatives from eight churches and four service or not-for-profit clubs in Almonte and Pakenham (see the list below). They meet on a monthly basis and as required, to fulfill the mission of MMLC, which is to:
- Meet the unmet needs of residents of Mississippi Mills in the areas of, but not limited to, health and safety; and
- Improve the quality of life of individuals, thereby strengthening our community
The primary goal of the MMLC is to work collaboratively, effectively and efficiently by partnering with other service providers.
Members of the MMLC are governed by and responsible to the organizations they represent. They volunteer to act as an advocate for a given case and to find an optimal resolution that satisfies the need. The total cost of addressing the need is shared between committee members, on a voluntary basis. Personal information about clients is strictly confidential and known only by the chair and the advocate assigned to an individual case.
The goal for 2026 is to continue to raise awareness of the financial support provided by the MMLC in order to help members of our community in need.
The key message of the MMLC: We are here to help.
