Special Weather Statement – Freezing Rain and Rain – March 31, 2026

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for freezing rain and rain expected on Tuesday, March 31.
An extended period of freezing rain or freezing drizzle, along with rain in the 20-40 mm range is possible, beginning early Tuesday morning and ending early Wednesday morning. There is uncertainty in tracking the system, but it appears possible that precipitation could arrive in two waves with a break for several hours on Tuesday. During this break, freezing rain may stop or change to freezing drizzle.
Temperatures are likely to rise above the freezing mark on Tuesday in some areas, changing the freezing rain to rain. Untreated roads may become icy and slippery and power outages are possible.
Localized flooding is also possible. The Mississippi River watershed flood status is currently under a water safety statement, meaning high flows, unsafe banks, melting ice and other factors could be dangerous, but flooding is not expected.
However, residents in flood prone areas should keep an eye on water levels and be prepared:
- Make sure you have a working sump pump with a backwater valve
- Consider having a portable generator and backup pump on hand
- Ensure downspouts are clear and outlets are at least three metres from any structure
- Remove valuable items from basements or lower floors that could be damaged
- Have emergency phone numbers handy
- Know the Municipality’s Emergency Preparedness Plan and sandbag policy
