The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is once again recognizing the local businesses that have helped shape our community through the Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night.

The awards night celebrates business owners who have reached significant milestones in continuous ownership and operation within Mississippi Mills. Awards will be presented to businesses celebrating 10, 25, 35, 50 and 65+ years in business.

Mississippi Mills is home to a vibrant and diverse business community built on entrepreneurship, innovation and family-owned enterprises. These businesses contribute to the character, prosperity and quality of life that make Mississippi Mills a special place to live, work and visit.

Since 2016, Mississippi Mills Council, with support from the Community and Economic Development Committee (C&EDC), has hosted an annual recognition event to honour business owners whose dedication, perseverance and investment have strengthened the local economy and enriched the community.

“Behind every successful business is a story of dedication, determination and community spirit,” said Mayor Christa Lowry. “The businesses we celebrate with this recognition have weathered challenges, embraced opportunities and continued to invest in Mississippi Mills year after year. Their commitment deserves to be celebrated.

Recipients will be recognized at the Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at the Almonte Old Town Hall.

We Need the Community’s Help

Do you know a local business owner who has reached one of these milestones? Residents, customers, employees, family members and business owners themselves are encouraged to submit nominations.

Eligible businesses must be located within the boundaries of Mississippi Mills and currently operating.

For more information or to submit a nomination, contact Tiffany MacLaren, Manager of Community and Economic Development, at tmaclaren@mississippimills.ca before September 10, 2026.

Please include:

  • Business name
  • Owner’s name
  • Number of years the current owner (or same family) has operated the business
  • Business address
  • A brief description of the business and any notable milestones, stories or achievements

Self-nominations are encouraged.

This recognition program recognizes the longevity and achievements of business owners and multi-generational family businesses, rather than business establishments that may have changed ownership over time. Owners who have purchased an existing local business may be recognized once they reach a qualifying ownership milestone of 10 years or more.

Mississippi Mills is fortunate to have many long-standing businesses. While it is not possible to recognize every eligible business in a single year, the C&EDC maintains an ongoing list of qualifying businesses and recognizes up to 40 businesses annually, with a maximum of 10 recipients in each category.

Since the program began, more than 110 Mississippi Mills businesses have been recognized. The Municipality looks forward to celebrating another group of deserving recipients this year.
