News, Programs and Events

Collection Spotlight: Magazines and Newspapers

Did you know that MMPL gets newspapers like the Ottawa Citizen, The Globe & Mail, and The Lanark Era? You can enjoy these publications while visiting the Almonte Branch.

MMPL also has a collection of 35 different magazines available to borrow! From The New Yorker to Hello!, Quilting Arts to Vogue, we have something for everyone – even children can get the latest issue of National Geographic Kids, Owl and more.

To browse and reserve your favourites, search for “magazines” in our catalogue: https://missmills.bibliocommons.com/v2/search

And for even more awesome news, over 6,000 (yes, thousand) e-magazines are always available on Libby with NO holds, NO waitlist and NO limits! You can borrow unlimited issues simultaneously, and they will never count against your e-book or e-audiobook borrowing limits. New to Libby? Ask at library or find out more on our website: https://missmillslibrary.com/ebooks-e-audio-e-resources/

Summer Reading Bucket List

MMPL doesn’t have an adult summer reading club, but a reading challenge is the next best thing! Pick up a copy of the Bucket List at either branch to start logging your reading. Return your version of a completed list to the library with your name and contact info by September 15 for your chance to win a prize! (Draw in late September). Open to all ages.

One of the Bucket List items is to read a book on The Friends of MMPL Summer Reading List. Thanks, Friends, for putting this list together!  You can find it under the Recommendations tab of our online catalogue here: https://missmills.bibliocommons.com/v2/list

AI and Technology Instructor: Jessica

Jessica joins us this summer as our AI and Technology Instructor, thanks to the generosity of the Elizabeth Kelly Foundation and Canada Summer Jobs. Jessica is proficient at various technology devices, operating systems and applications. Her ability to articulate technology concepts in a clear way makes her an excellent fit for providing beginner technology workshops for library patrons over the next couple of months.

From the latest technologies to old-school retro tech, Jessica knows it all! Jessica enjoys music production, video editing, and tinkering. She’s also an avid white-water kayaker. You’ll often find her out on the Ottawa River or even the local spot in Blakeney!

Jessica has two great learning opportunities now open for registration at the Almonte Branch. Her workshops are small, beginner-focused, and senior-friendly.

Internet Safety – Learn the ins and outs of Internet Safety. In this workshop you’ll learn about the dangers of the internet and how to safely avoid them.

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Learn about one of the most important developments of the modern era. AI is changing how people work, learn, communicate, create and solve problems.

Each workshop is a single session, offered at various times. For more information and to register: https://mmpubliclibrary.libcal.com/calendar or call the Almonte Branch at 613-256-1037. More workshops and Pakenham dates coming soon!
