Municipal Road Brushing Program Begins this Month
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills will begin its annual roadside brushing program this month. Work is expected to continue through mid-October.
What is roadside brushing?
Roadside brushing is a routine maintenance program that removes overgrown trees, shrubs and other vegetation from municipal road allowances. This work helps keep roads safe and supports ongoing road maintenance.
Why is roadside brushing important?
Roadside brushing provides several benefits including:
- Improved road safety by enhancing sightlines and removing potential hazards
- Vegetation control to prevent encroachment onto roadways and shoulders
- Protection of road infrastructure by reducing moisture retention and helping prevent ice buildup that can damage the road base
- Support for winter maintenance by providing space for snow storage during plowing operations
The Municipality acknowledges that brushed areas may look different immediately after the work is completed, but roadside vegetation will naturally regenerate and is typically well established again within a year.
Roads currently scheduled for brushing in 2026:
- Sugar Bush Road
- Ramsay Concession 3A
- Old Perth Road (from Ramsay Concession 3A to Tatlock Road)
- Clayton Road
- Boland Road
- Smart Street
- McArton Road
- Carbine Road
Additional spot brushing may be done at other locations during the season, as required.
