Message from Mayor Christa Lowry

With work on Pakenham’s historic Five Span Bridge progressing ahead of schedule, Lanark County is hosting a community celebration on Saturday, October 3, beginning at 1:30 pm. Mississippi Mills is pleased to support the event and help spread the word.

Before Lanark County reopens the bridge to traffic, the community will have a rare opportunity to experience the historic bridge up close, appreciate the remarkable restoration work that has taken place over the past two years, and meet members off the team, including the engineers and stone masons, who worked on the project.

At 2:15 pm, a community drone photo is planned from the bridge. It’s not every day we get the chance to gather together on one of Pakenham’s most iconic landmarks and make a little local history of our own!

Lanark County will also have pieces of the original stone from the bridge available as keepsakes community members can take home, in exchange for donations to the Pakenham Public School kindergarten yard renovation project.

I know this bridge closure has been difficult for residents, businesses, and visitors - particularly over the past summer. With the restoration nearing completion, this is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the community’s patience and celebrate what the reopening of this Pakenham landmark.
