Hydro One has notified the Municipality of a planned overnight power outage that will affect parts of Mississippi Mills on October 29 from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. on October 30.

The overnight outage is planned for crews to carry out distribution lines relocation to support the future MTO expansion. For the safety of crews, station equipment must be deenergized while the work is underway. Outages are scheduled overnight, when electricity use is lowest, to minimize impacts on customers.

Townships and communities affected by the planned outage include Perth, Mississippi Mills, Carleton Place, Beckwith, Montague, Smiths Falls and Ashton. Approximately 11,000 customers will experience this outage and have been notified through an automated phone call. Customers can also visit the Hydro One outage map Stormcentre or contact them at 1‑888‑664‑9376 for more information.

Customers are encouraged to prepare for the upcoming outage by taking the following actions:

  • Making sure appliances, such as the stove, are in the off position.
  • Making sure cellphones and devices are fully charged.
  • Using a battery-powered alarm clock or cellphone to ensure morning alarms aren’t missed.
  • Keeping refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible and using a cooler with ice for items needed during the planned outage.
  • If water services will be affected at your home, consider filling jugs of water to use for drinking and cooking.
  • If using a generator, remember to use it in a dry area outdoors away from any open windows, doors and vents. Visit the Electrical Safety Authority for more tips.
