From the Office of the Mayor – June 2026 is Pride Month

June 2, 2026

Each June, we proudly celebrate Pride Month and recognize the resilience, diversity and contributions of our Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and gender and sexually diverse (2SLGBTQIA+) neighbours. Pride is both a celebration of progress and a reminder that our work to build a safe, inclusive community for everyone continues in Mississippi Mills.

Council has once again unanimously proclaimed June as Pride Month in Mississippi Mills. This annual proclamation reflects our shared belief that inclusion is not a slogan, it is a responsibility. On June 1, we raised the Pride flag at the Municipal Office, where it will fly throughout the month.

While Canada continues to be a global leader in advancing rights and protections, we know that discrimination and exclusion still exist. Many 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals continue to face barriers that other may never encounter. That reality is why Pride matters. It is why allyship matters. And it is why we continue learning, showing support and standing together so that everyone feels respected, valued, and safe.

Throughout June, you’ll see Pride colours displayed across our municipality, including at community events hosted by Pride in Mississippi Mills and Queer Connection Lanark. Pride in Mississippi Mills will kick off their festivities on Sunday, June 7 at the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum.

Celebrations begin with a Pride flag raising and remarks at 12 p.m., followed by a new Community Marketplace inside the museum until 6 p.m., featuring artists, makers, small businesses and community organizations. These gatherings remind us of the power of visibility and the importance of creating spaces where everyone can show up as their full selves.

Thank you to the organizers, volunteers and advocates who make Pride possible in our community. To our 2SLGBTQIA+ residents, you are an important and valued part of Mississippi Mills.

I encourage everyone to take part in Pride Month in a way that is meaningful to you. When we embrace one another with compassion and courage, we build a stronger and kinder community.

Sincerely,

Mayor Christa Lowry
