Catch Basin Cleaning Program Starts August 24

Starting August 24, the Municipality’s annual catch basin cleaning program will begin.

The Municipality has contracted Sanivac to complete the work, which is expected to take several weeks. Residents may notice vacuum trucks and crews working on roads and in neighbourhoods during this time. Minor traffic delays may occur in some areas.

Catch basins are the grated drains found along roads and curbs that collect rainwater and direct it into the municipal stormwater system. Over time, dirt, sand, leaves and other debris build up inside these drains and can block the flow of water.

Regular cleaning helps:

  • Reduce the risk of flooding during heavy rain
  • Keep stormwater flowing properly through the drainage system
  • Prevent blockages in storm sewers
  • Protect roads, properties and local waterways

Residents can help by avoiding parking directly over or in front of catch basins where possible and by keeping leaves, grass clippings and other debris out of roadside ditches and storm drains.
