Effective July 14, 2026, the Mississippi Mills Fire Department (MMFD) has raised the burn risk to Level 4 – Extreme Risk (Supervised Campfires Only).

This decision has been made due to current dry conditions, provincial wildfire prevention guidance such as a high Initial Spread Index (ISI) and Buildup Index (BUI) ratings, and the need to reduce the risk of human-caused wildland fires. The ongoing wildfire activity across Ontario — evidenced by smoke from northwestern Ontario fires reaching our region — highlights the strain on provincial wildfire response resources and the importance of preventing avoidable fires locally.

An active 2026 burn permit is required before any open-air burning.

Obtain your free permit at MM Burn Permits or call 613-256-2064 option 7.

Permit holders must call the burn permit line (613-706-4004) to activate their permit prior to each burn.

We appreciate the community's cooperation in helping protect our residents, firefighters, properties, and natural areas during this period of elevated fire danger.
