Annual Sanitary Sewer Flushing and Inspection Program Begins October 19, 2026

The Municipality’s annual sanitary sewer flushing and inspection program in Almonte will begin October 19, 2026, and is expected to be completed by mid-November.
This year, work will take place in the eastern portion of Almonte, north of the Mississippi River. Specifically, the work area is bounded by Ottawa Street and Main Street East to the north-west, Appleton Side Road to the north-east, Johanna Street to the south-east, and the Mississippi River to the south-west.
The work is part of the Municipality’s annual maintenance program for the sewage collection system and is being completed by Clean Water Works Inc. Flushing and inspections are performed in accordance with Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks guidelines.
Why is this done?
The sanitary sewer flushing and inspection program keeps the system operating efficiently by:
- Helping prevent blockages and backups by removing sediments, grease and debris
- Allowing for detailed inspections of all sanitary sewers to assess their condition
What can I expect?
- Presence of crews performing work in neighbourhoods
- Some noise from equipment used for cleaning
Do I need to do anything?
When out on roadways, watch for crews and equipment. During the cleaning process, high pressure water can create a buildup of air pressure in the sewer line that may escape through a sewer connection. Typically, the air pressure escapes through a plumbing vent, however in some circumstances this can cause water to splash out through drains. To prevent the chance of this occurring, take the following precautions:
- Cover your basement floor drains and close toilet lids to prevent blow-back from pressurized cleaning
- Ensure internal plumbing vents are operational
