MVCA Offering Phragmites Removal Kits

From the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) is pleased to offer phragmites removal kits for landowners, community groups, and municipalities to rent. These kits can help facilitate the removal of in-water. Invasive Phragmites using the cut-to-drown method and is recommended for stands no larger than 400 m2.

Kits are available for 2-week periods and contain the following:

  • 8 raspberry cane cutters
  • 5 safety glasses
  • 4 bypass pruners
  • 3 spade shovels
  • 1 box of black garbage bags
  • 4 pairs of hip waders (sizes are limited)
  • 1 tarp
  • 1 raft
  • 1 collapsible wagon
  • 1 how-to guide

Please note we also have a native phragmites in Ontario. Therefore, we require landowners to report their stand to EDDMapS to confirm the presence of invasive phragmites before renting this equipment.
