Mississippi Mills Fire Department: 2026 Fire Season Has Arrived, Be Prepared

As of April 1, 2026, fire season is underway. Residents are reminded that under the Open-Air Burning By-law 17-35, holders of valid fire permits may not burn brush, drum, or windrow fires between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. from April 1 to October 31. Burning is limited to evening hours during the fire season.

In addition to the municipal by-law, the Municipality is located within a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Restricted Fire Zone (RFZ). The MNRF establishes fire-related restrictions during fire season, including permitted burning times, to reduce the risk of wildland fires. These provincial restrictions work alongside municipal regulations and must also be followed.

Evening burning hours are safer due to cooler temperatures and higher humidity, which help reduce fire spread by keeping vegetation less dry and less likely to ignite.

Before burning, please check for any active burn bans by visiting our website or calling 613‑706‑4004.

Fire permits are free and can be obtained online at mm.burnpermits.com.

We thank our community for continuing to work together to burn responsibly and help keep our neighbours, firefighters and municipality safe throughout the fire season.
