The 2026 Municipal Election is this October and it’s important that all Mississippi Mills residents check to see if you are on the Voters’ List and not to assume you are on the list.

Elections Ontario now maintains the list

Beginning January 1, 2024, the Chief Electoral Officer of Ontario (Elections Ontario) became responsible for maintaining the voters’ list used in municipal elections and school board elections, a role previously held by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).

What does this mean for voters?

You must now register or update your voter information through Elections Ontario by visiting www.registertovoteon.ca.

The shift to Elections Ontario managing the municipal voters’ list means that all voter registration, updates, and corrections now go through Elections Ontario – not the Municipality of MPAC.

About the Elections Ontario’s portal

You can now use Elections Ontario’s Voter Registration portal to:

  • Confirm your voter information
  • Update your name or address
  • Add yourself if you’re missing
  • Remove outdated information
  • Register property‑based eligibility (important in cottage country municipalities)
Elections Ontario’s Voter Registration portal replaces the old MPAC “Voter Lookup” system.

About Elections Ontario and these changes

Elections Ontario now maintains:

  • Permanent Register of Electors for Ontario – Main voters’ list for provincial, municipal, and school board elections
  • Register of Absentee Voters – For eligible provincial electors temporarily living outside Ontario
  • Ontario Register of Future Voters – For 16–17‑year‑olds who pre‑register

Why the change?

  • Improve accuracy and consistency of voter data across the province
  • Reduce duplication between provincial and municipal systems
  • Provide a centralized, year‑round voter registration process
  • Modernize Ontario’s election infrastructure

Previously, MPAC created a Preliminary List of Electors for each municipal election using property assessment data, which municipalities then corrected and finalized. That process is now replaced by Elections Ontario’s continuous register.

What this means for municipalities

Municipal clerks still run municipal elections, but the Municipality no longer builds the voters’ list from MPAC data and no longer updates that list directly. This change is expected to reduce administrative burden and improve list accuracy.
