Heritage Week - "Did You Know?" - Heritage Permits - February 18, 2026

Heritage Week is a great time to learn how we protect and care for the historic places that make Mississippi Mills unique.
If you’re planning work on an individually designated heritage property or a property within the Downtown Almonte Heritage Conservation District, you may need a Heritage Permit. Heritage Permits are required for alterations, additions, new construction, or demolitions to designated heritage properties to ensure changes respect the historic character of the property and surrounding area. There is no application fee for a Heritage Permit.
-
Planning a project? Start early.
Property owners are encouraged to contact the Planning Division early in the process to book a pre-consultation meeting and discuss Heritage Permit requirements.
Email jrussell@mississipppimills.ca or call 613-256-2064
-
Before applying, be sure to review the 2026 Heritage Committee submission deadlines and meeting schedule on the heritage webpage.
-
Minor Heritage Permits
Required for small alterations that maintain the integrity of a heritage property.
-
Major Heritage Permits
Required for larger alterations, additions, new construction, or dual designated properties.
To get started, review the Heritage Permit Guidelines and submit your formal application to the Planning Department. There is no application fee for a Heritage Permit.
This Heritage Week, we thank the residents, property owners, and volunteers who help preserve Mississippi Mills’ history, today and for generations to come.
