From the Office of the Mayor – Invitation to Volunteer Appreciation Reception – May 1, 2025

Graphic with collage of photos and the text 'From the Office of the Mayor - Volunteer Appreciation'

April 29, 2025

Do you drive neighbours to appointments or call folks who might be lonely? Maybe you lead Scouts, Guides or 4H? Do you bake beans or play music at the Country Dinner & Dances in Clayton, cook breakfast at the Legion or St. George’s, make sandwiches for the Friendship Luncheon or host Sunday Supper with A Meal for All? Have you knit blankets for Home Hospice North Lanark, crocheted poppies or sorted clothes at the Hub?  Do you pick up garbage along our roadways or parks, build birdhouses with the Men’s Shed, plant flower boxes around the villages or grow a row of veggies for the food bank? Do you organize the Almonte Fair, Celtfest, Pakenham Frost Festival, the North Lanark Highland Games or Puppets Up? Or have you helped preserve our history at one of the local museums?

If you’ve given your time and talents for the benefit of our community, THANK YOU. Volunteers are the truest expression of community spirit. Whether it’s a few minutes, an hour or several days a month, all volunteer contributions are essential to fostering the welcoming community we are fortunate to have here in Mississippi Mills.

April 27 to May 3, 2025 is National Volunteer Week and to once again celebrate the strong tradition of volunteerism, the Municipality, Almonte Civitan Club, The Hub and Carebridge Community Support are co-hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Reception

Please join us from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Almonte Civitan Hall (500 Almonte Street) this Thursday, May 1 for a delicious dessert buffet to honour all our community volunteers.

The theme to this year’s National Volunteer Week is ‘Volunteers Make Waves’ and Mississippi Mills is all the richer for the positive ripples of change our volunteers bring.

“The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.” – Helen Keller

Sincerely,

Mayor Christa Lowry
Municipality of Mississippi Mills
