Municipalities across Ontario play a critical role in delivering the services and infrastructure that communities rely on every day: from roads and recreation, to planning, environmental protection and public safety. Municipal services and infrastructure are delivered by workers across Ontario. These careers offer competitive compensation and benefits, job security, and the opportunity to make a real, lasting impact close to home.

‘Make Your Municipal Move’ is AMO’s province-wide campaign launched under AMO’s Municipal Workforce Development Project. The campaign is designed to reintroduce municipal careers as meaningful work, with opportunities for Ontarians of any education background or experience level.

Why this Campaign Matters

Municipalities across Ontario are facing growing challenges in attracting and retaining the workforce needed to meet current and future service demands. This challenge is not driven by a lack of interest in meaningful work – but by a lack of awareness.

Since 2022, through the Municipal Workforce Development Project, AMO has worked with municipalities, municipal staff associations, and post-secondary partners to build the municipal talent pipeline and support the recruitment and retention of municipal staff. Make Your Municipal Move responds directly to a key priority in AMO’s Workforce Development Project Roadmap to build public awareness of what local government does and municipal career opportunities.
