As per Regulation 239/02 of the Municipal Act, 2001, and due to the freezing rain warning issued by Environment Canada, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills has declared a significant weather event for Sunday, December 28, effective at 7 p.m. until further notice.

This declaration suspends the standard timelines required for Mississippi Mills to meet winter maintenance measures until the Municipality declares the significant weather event has ended. It may take longer than usual to bring the condition of the roads back to a state of repair.

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills may declare a significant weather event when the weather forecast or conditions include one or more of the following conditions:

  • Significant snow accumulation during a 24-hour period
  • Ice formation occurring with no warning from the weather forecast
  • High winds leading to large snow drifts
  • Cold temperatures when de-icing operations will not be effective

The declaration will remain in place until the event clears. Our Roads and Public Works Department advises residents to:

  • Stay off the roads if possible
  • Be cautious around snow removal equipment
  • Be prepared for power outages and tree damage
  • Make sure you have a 72-hour emergency kit ready
