Council Highlights – January 13, 2026

At the first Council meeting of 2026, Council approved the Human Resources Strategic Plan. This plan explains the Municipality’s main goals for managing staff over the next three to five years. It outlines how the Municipality will update its HR systems, plan for future staffing needs, support employee and leadership training, prepare for future job changes, hire and keep employees, and improve workplace culture, engagement and performance. View the plan.
Council approved spending $74,550 for the first round of the 2026 Community Impact Grant Program. The program was updated in 2025 and now has seven funding streams that offer different kinds of support, including money and in‑kind help. View a list of the organizations set to receive funding. In total, Council has set aside $99,628 in grant funding for 2026. More information about how to apply for the second round of funding in the spring will be shared soon. Council also asked staff to invite Lanark County Community Justice to a future meeting to talk about a possible project in a Mississippi Mills community park.
The updated Road Safety, Speed Management and Traffic Calming Policy was sent back to staff by Council for more review and public engagement. This draft policy will create a clear and consistent way to look at concerns about speeding or safety, decide when action is needed, and, if required, put the right measures in place in a coordinated way. It will come back to a future Council meeting for discussion.
Committee of the Whole also heard the following items, which will be brought forward for approval at a future Council meeting:
- The recommendation report for Phase 7 and 8 of Mill Run Subdivision.
- Updates to the Traffic and Parking By-law.
- Consideration of the Mississippi Mills Public Art Policy and terms of reference for the Mississippi Mills Public Art Working Group, to support the policy and engage the community.
