As a result of the recent Covid-19 outbreak that has been confirmed in our region, Mississippi Mills is working with the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark Public Health Unit (LGLDHU) on necessary measures to help stop the spread.

Due to the high level of community transmission, the Municipality has agreed to close certain public facilities.  Effective immediately, the following facilities will be closed until further notice:

  • The Almonte Community Centre & Arena
  • The Stewart Community Centre & Arena, Pakenham
  • Almonte Old Town Hall
  • Municipal Office locate on Old Perth Road
  • Almonte and Pakenham Branches of the Mississippi Mills Public Library

Unfortunately, this means our ice bookings are finished for the 2020/2021 season. We look forward to a better season starting in the fall of 2021.

These steps being taken at our recreation facilities is to minimize spaces where uncontrolled gathering could possibly occur in order to decrease the risk of transmission in an already serious situation.

Both branches of the Mississippi Mills Public Library will offer contactless pick-up service. Patrons can place holds, download material and register for online programs at www.missmillslibrary.com. For more information, please call 613-256-1037 or email almontelib@missmillslibrary.com.

The Mississippi Mills Municipal Office will close to in person services.  Services are still available via email, virtual meeting and telephone.

Payments and documents can be dropped off in our secure drop safe outside the reception doors.

During these closures we will be performing additional cleaning to ensure that our public spaces and workplaces are as safe as we can make them.  Essential Services including snow and ice control, garbage collection, water and sewer and fire protection remain fully staffed and operational.

More than ever, it is critically important that we all do our part to reduce the spread. Please follow all public health guidelines including social distancing, sanitizing and wearing your masks. Because the virus spreads so easily, the LGLDHU continues to encourage people to stay home as much as possible, limit contact to your own household and to stay local, avoiding travel outside the region.
