This afternoon the Lanark OPP reported a drowning death in Blakeney. This is the second fatal call that the Mississippi Mills Fire Department has responded to in mere days, on the heels of a major 30-acre brush fire mid-week.
On behalf of Council and the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the victims from these tragic events. Please respect the privacy of the victims and their families while they are notified and while they mourn.
I want to acknowledge how exhausting, both physically and emotionally, the last number of days have been for members of the MMFD. It has been a very heavy week for them and for their families.
On behalf of Council and the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I’d like to thank Chief Williams and each member of the MMFD for their commitment and steadfast dedication. While we in the community cannot fully understand what it is like to stand in your boots, we remain enormously grateful for your willingness to serve.
