Construction Update
Concrete Sidewalk and Curbs
Thomas Cavanagh Construction has started installing concrete sidewalks within Phase B of the Downtown Core Infrastructure Renewal Project. This will be completed in phases over the next two weeks. Affected businesses will be accommodated with accessibility ramps to enter and exit buildings while the concrete works are curing.
Below is a drawing markup sketch outlining the proposed timeline for concrete works within Phase B. Any areas remaining will be reinstated with temporary asphalt for the winter months to allow for future phasing of works without disturbing the newly installed concrete sidewalks.
Road Grading and Asphalt
Once concrete works are completed, Cavanagh will mobilize equipment to complete placement of granular material for road base in preparation for asphalt. This work is scheduled to be completed between November 28th to November 30th. Placement of the road asphalt is scheduled for December 1st, 2022. Any temporary asphalt sidewalk reinstatement works will be completed at this time.
Pedestrian crossovers
Three new pedestrian crossovers have been installed within Phase A: one to cross Almonte Street and two on Mill Street. The new crossovers include pedestrian activated rapid flashing beacons to allow for safe pedestrian passage. These three locations will be operational once crosswalk line painting has been completed.
