Highlights of the September 15, 2020 Council Meeting

The Council meeting began with a presentation from Sally McIntyre, General Manager of Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA), on the recent activities of MVCA over the past 18 months. Some of these updates included staffing, the spring flood of 2019, changes to the Conservation Authorities Act and a cut in provincial funding and legislation. She also spoke about their Strategic Plan, 3-year Financial Plan and Watershed Plan. Council approved the new parking restrictions for Rosamond Street and Mary Street after a review showed that parking was occurring on both sides of the street, resulting in a single lane of traffic which posed safety concerns for emergency vehicle response times. The approval includes the installation of no parking signs on the north side of Rosamond St from Shepherd St to Mary St, on the south side of Rosamond St and on the east side of Mary St from Almonte St to Rosamond St.

Staff will also be installing stop signs at the intersections of Sadler Dr. and Horton St., and Sadler Dr. and Honeyborne St. to slow the flow of traffic. The stop signs will be installed on Horton St. and Honeyborne St. approaching Sadler Dr. with the hopes of slowing traffic and improving pedestrian safety in our municipality.

Mayor Lowry brought attention to the recent ground-breaking ceremony for the newest addition to the Riverwalk Project. The mill workers staircase will be completed later this fall thanks to the dedicated work of our Riverwalk Working Group and generous donations from our community. We are excited to see this project underway.
