Highlights of the June 1, 2021 Council Meeting

To honour the 215 children found in a mass grave at a Kamloops residential school, all flags at municipal facilities in Mississippi Mills have been lowered to half mast until further notice. Council encourages residents of Mississippi Mills to set a pair of children’s shoes out on your steps in tribute and to remember the 215 children taken in Kamloops and the lives of all Indigenous children who never came home, the survivors and their families who continue to bear witness to these tragedies. A National Indian Residential School Crisis Line is available to provide support to former residential school students and those affected. Emotional and crisis referral services are available by calling the 24-Hour National Crisis Line at 1-866-925-4419.

Out of respect for the children whose lives were taken in Kamloops and in solidarity with the Indigenous People and non-Indigenous People of Mississippi Mills who mourn this loss, the PRIDE flag raising ceremony at the County office has been postponed. The ceremony will now take place during the week of June 14th.

Council declared the week of June 21st to 25th as Graduation Week to celebrate the achievements of students in Mississippi Mills. As a result of COVID-19, graduation ceremonies for students at all levels in the province have been postponed.
