The Mississippi Mills Fire Department is reminding the public that the municipality remains under a complete fire ban at this time, along with the Township of Lanark Highlands.

While some neighbouring municipalities may be under different levels of fire bans, our area has been deemed at high/extreme risk for wildfires due to dry conditions and warmer than average temperatures. We understand that during these difficult times, residents are looking for an outdoor retreat and want to enjoy summer activities.

The Fire Department would like to remind residents that any cooking devices, outdoor fireplaces, fire bowls, and fuel fired appliances that use propane or natural gas are permitted for use during a fire ban. Please follow the manufacturers recommendations when using fuel fired appliances.  Those who reside in the restricted burning areas within the Almonte town limits, and the village of Pakenham may also utilize these devices year-round under the Open Air Burning By-law.

Conditions are being monitored on a daily basis. The ban will be lifted when it has been deemed safe to do so. Residents may call the burn permit number at (613) 706-4004 or visit the website at mm.burnpermits.com to review the current status of the burn ban.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our firefighters and community safe.
