Pilot Reimbursement Program for Non-Resident Aquatic Fees Coming to Mississippi Mills

On September 5th, 2023, Council recognized the importance of aquatics programs to our residents of all ages and the barrier that is created by high fees. Mississippi Mills does not have a swimming pool and has relied on our neighbouring communities for this service. To make aquatics financially more accessible Council has set aside $25,000 for 2023 and 2024 to reimburse Mississippi Mills residents the additional fees they are charged at neighbouring swimming pools as non-residents.

The second Sunday in September is Firefighters' National Memorial Day. The commemoration date was established by the Parliament of Canada in 2017. Canadian flags at all federal buildings are flown at half-mast on this day, as are flags at all municipal facilities in Mississippi Mills honouring those who have fallen in the line of duty.

In collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Canada, the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum (MVTM) will present a fundraising event with a live exhibit of traditional Mexican dress, tapestries, and art on Saturday, September 9 between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Almonte Old Town Hall (14 Bridge St). The results of the Mississippi Mills Bail Out Fundraiser were announced at Tuesday night’s meeting. The community came through to ‘bail out’ our council members by contributing a total of $905 in monetary donations and 315 lbs of food to benefit the Lanark County Food Bank – The Hunger Stop.
