Updated Order Issued for 38 Main Street East

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills has been working with the property owner of 38 Main Street East in Almonte on next steps to stabilize the building.

Our Chief Building Official issued an Order on Wednesday, December 20 requiring the property owner to provide a plan, prepared by a Professional Engineer, along with several milestones which need to be met. The intent of the Order is to stabilize the belltower and reduce the area of the road closure as much as possible.

Every day, paramedics with the Lanark County Paramedic Service (LCPS) care for our community. Recently, they did so in a different way.

Mississippi Mills Council Gives Stamp of Approval to 2024 Budget

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills Council passed the 2024 Budget on December 14, after deliberations over five meetings, and following public input from nearly 170 residents.

On Friday, November 24, the Municipality of Mississippi Mills initiated a full closure of Union Street and the adjacent block of Main Street, relating to safety concerns with the building at 38 Main Street East in Almonte (Dungarvon Building).

Update on 38 Main Street Road Closure

The Municipality anticipates the road closure for 38 Main Street East will be in place for the foreseeable future.  

Staff are monitoring traffic counts and continue to work with the property owner on next steps. The Municipality understands that the road closures and detours have had an impact on traffic flow throughout the downtown area. It is very important that motorists adhere to the road closures and temporary one-way street conversion of Union Street South for the safety of everyone.
