2017 SUMMER STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

The following summer student positions are available for the Municipality of Mississippi Mills for the 2017 summer season:

Mississippi Mills Public Library - Stay tuned for postings late spring as hiring is dependent upon grant approvals

Engineering Summer Student - 1 position $14.01 per hour

The position is for 40 hours per week from May until August, 2017. 

Duties include: Gathering electronic data for inclusion in the municipal GIS system, collecting field inventory and condition assessment information relating to infrastructure assets, implementing the traffic count program, general inspection duties, preparing project summary reports, assisting with other duties, including flagging and maintenance.

Public Works Engineering Student - Job Description

Public Works Assistant Summer Student - 1 position $11.40 per hour

The position is for 35 hours per week from May until August, 2017.

Duties include: whipper-snipping, debris and litter collection, cold patching, fire hydrant maintenance - colour code and paint, hanging flower baskets and planter maintenance, traffic control person on road jobs and assisting with other duties as required.  Must be available to work during the evening/weekends for festivals and special events as required.

Public Works Assistant Summer Student - Job Description

Almonte Daycare Centre - 2 positions as follows:

Summer Camp Coordinator Assistant - 2 positions $11.40 per hour from June 19, 2017

to September 1, 2017. Duties include assisting the Camp Coordinator with the planning and implementation of the Mississippi Mills Summer Camp, daily supervision of children 4-12 years of age, planning field trips, organizing sporting activities, community involvement projects etc. while following program policies and procedures. Maintaining a safe environment under the directed supervision of a Registered Early Childhood Educator.

Successful candidate must produce a Vulnerable Sector Reference Check! Preference will be given to candidates enrolled in the Field of Early Childhood Education.

Summer Camp Coordinator Assistant - Job Description

Recreation Facilities Labourer - 2 positions  $11.40-$12.21 per hour. Duties include:  performing maintenance and janitorial duties and necessary repairs associated with all recreation building facilities, structures, parks and playing fields and includes reporting major breakdowns and repairs to the Working Facility Foreman, setting up and cleaning up for all hall and ice surface rentals, programs and special events, preparing outdoor sport facilities for daily usage including all those duties deemed essential for the daily operations of the facilities

Recreation Facilities Labourer - Job Description

Information Office Student - 2 positions  $12.39 per hour

Students are required to ensure the information centre is open to the public to provide information on tourist attractions, events, accommodation, transport and other facilities in the municipality and region. Experience or education in Communications, Public Relations, Special Events or Travel-Tourism would be considered an asset.

Beautification Maintenance Students - 3 positions  $11.40 per hour

Responsible students are required to assist in beautification and maintenance activities throughout the municipality from May to August. Experience or education in landscaping, gardening, horticulture or general maintenance would be considered a strong asset.

Administration/Records Management Assistant - 1 position - $12.39-$13.26 per hour - 35 hour week

One (1) student, with business/public administration or political science background, to assist with the development of policies and procedures; review and maintain centralized records management systems; and provide administrative support in legislative services.

Hiring for these positions is dependent upon receiving supporting government grants and you must be a full time student at the time of application and returning to full time studies in the fall.

requires an

Administrative Assistant/Receptionist

$15.23-18.73/hour - 24 hours/week (1 year contract) 

The Administrative Assistant/Receptionist is a new position which will report to the Fire Chief and is responsible for reception and administrative support services to the Department.

DUTIES

The duties include but are not limited to the following:

.  Greeting the public; handle incoming calls; respond to general inquiries;

.   Providing administrative and coordination support such as preparing reports, coordinating meetings, minute taking, agenda preparation, filing, photocopying, etc.

.   Developing and maintaining departmental databases

.   Developing and maintaining departmental information on the website, posting information on social media, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

.   Secondary School Diploma.  A post-secondary diploma in office administration (or equivalent) would be an asset.

.   A minimum of 2 years' office experience; experience working in a Fire Department office setting would be considered an asset

.   Must have sound working knowledge of computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation applications.  Knowledge of Fire Pro 2 Management software would be considered an asset

.   Must possess sound knowledge of fire prevention, fire and life safety public education; NFPA certifications in Fire Prevention and/or Public Education would be considered an asset.

.   Demonstrated strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
