Lanark County - Information Session for Municipal Election Candidates 

Have you filed your nomination papers or are considering running in the 2018 municipal election this fall?
Find out what you need to know at an upcoming candidate information session.

Lanark County municipalities are hosting two free information sessions for potential candidates.
These sessions will be beneficial to both new and experienced candidates. 
Attendees will gain a better understanding of how municipal elections work and what to expect if elected.

 Session 1 Thursday July 5, 2018, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm 
 Lanark County Administration Building, 99 Christie Lake Rd, Perth
 Session 2 Wednesday July 11, 2018, 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm 
 Town of Carleton Place Arena (upstairs), 75 Neelin St. Carleton Place

Who can be a Candidate?

To run for municipal office you must be nominated and qualify.

To be a qualified candidate you must be:

  • a Canadian Citizen; and
  • at least 18 years old; and
  • reside in Mississippi Mills or be the owner or tenant of land in Mississippi Mills, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land in Mississippi Mills.

Nomination Process

Nominations must be filed in person by the candidate or by their agent.  They cannot be mailed, e-mailed or faxed.  Please note that you will be required to provide an original copy of identification showing your name, qualifying address and signature (e.g. driver's licence).

When filing your nomination papers, please ensure you have the following items ready:

  1. Nomination Paper
  2.  Prescribed Declaration endorsing the nomination by at least 25 persons who are eligible to vote (does not apply to Trustee candidates)
  3.  Consent to Release Personal Information
  4.  Proof of Identity
  5.  Nomination filing fee: $200 for Mayor,  $100 for Deputy Mayor, Councillors or School Board Trustee
