The Province of Ontario announced a Provincewide Stay at Home order to commence 12:01AM on January 14th for a period of 4 weeks. The Municipality of Mississippi Mills encourages the public to get their information and direction on the provincial orders from the Leeds, Grenville, and Lanark District Health Unit. This remains a public health emergency and our Health Unit can be depended on for the most up to date and locally specific information.

In accordance with the Provincial Orders the following impacts on Municipal Services will be in place for the period of the declared Provincial Emergency (January 14th to February 11th, 2021). Municipal staff remain available via email and telephone.  Please allow time for us to retrieve and address your needs and concerns.


CHILDCARE SERVICES
Childcare services for Infant/Toddler and Preschool children remain open at both 208 State Street and 110 Paterson location.

Almonte Daycare services will be offering TARGETED EMERGENCY CHILDCARE for school age children effective Tuesday Jan. 12/2021 at Holy Name of Mary Catholic School.

LIBRARY
The Library will continue with contactless pick-up, returns and outreach service. Online programming will also continue along with take home craft kits for all ages. The computer labs are closed but residents can send documents to the branches to be printed. Please call 613-256-1037 or go to missmillslibrary.com for more information.

Tech help is now available by phone on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11 a.m.  to 4 p.m. and Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please email techtutor@missmillslibrary.com or call 613-256-1037 to book an appointment.

Library washrooms are closed to the public.


RECREATION & CULTURE
Recreation and Culture staff will be modifying schedules to work from home where possible but remain available by email or telephone.

Reach Recreation and Culture department staff at 613-256-1077 and follow prompt for individual extensions. Messages are being checked regularly.  

Mississippi Mills Community Centres
Both the Almonte Community Centre and the Stewart Community Centre will be closed for all activities until February 11 or until the Province provides direction that allows them to reopen.  At this time ice will remain in place and ready for reopening.

The Almonte Curling facility remains closed for 2020/2021 season as per earlier decision.

Almonte Old Town Hall
Almonte Old Town Hall is closed to the public. The Information Centre and public washrooms will also remain closed until further notice. For information visit www.mississippimills.ca

There are currently no bookings scheduled for the auditorium during the 4-week closure period.


MUNICIPAL OFFICE SERVICES
Municipal offices located at 3131 Old Perth Road, Almonte will be closed to the public. Staff will regularly be checking their emails and voice messages to continue to serve the public. Please allow addition time for a response.

Payments and documents can be dropped off in our secure drop box/safe at the back of the building and will be checked regularly.

All commissioning services and in-person appointments will be postponed until after January 23, 2021.

Building & Planning & By-Law Department services will remain available. Staff will not be in the office.

BUILDING: We have gone digital with our services. Submit applications, plans, documents in PDF form to building@mississippimills.ca – please include your phone and email. Your information will be entered into our software and sent for plans review. You will be contacted when permit ready or for missing information or you will be sent your invoice when approval granted. Payment can be made by mailing or placing in drop box the cheque with copy of invoice. You will then receive permit, stamped plans and paid receipt. An incomplete application will delay your permit – read the prompts on application document carefully – fill in each box with info or N/A.

ESSENTIAL MUNICIPAL SERVICES
Services including snow and ice control, garbage collection, water and sewer and fire protection remain fully staffed and operational. 


COUNCIL MEETINGS

 Council meetings will now move to virtual meetings. Information on the location to view or listen to the live Council and Committee of the Whole meetings will be provided on the January 26th agenda and communicated through our website and News Digest. Committee meetings will be postponed or cancelled unless there is urgent business that requires a meeting.


WASTE COLLECTION
There are no changes to the garbage and recycling collection schedules.


MUNICIPAL FIRE SERVICES

The Mississippi Mills Fire Department is available to respond to emergencies.  We encourage residents to be fire safe and ensure they have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.  Ensure your alarms are within the specified manufacturer date and they have not expired.  Maintain the alarms in accordance with the manufacturers recommendations and keep the sensors clean.  We do not encourage open air burning at this time.
