Highlights of February 6, 2018 Council Meeting

Posted on Wednesday February 07, 2018

It was a full house last night with two big items on the agenda, Wild Parsnip and the Environmental Land Use options for the Community Official Plan.

Council heard from multiple delegations regarding the effects and management of Wild Parsnip. The presentations centered on public health and agriculture. After a thorough discussion, Council chose a blended approach with the use of mechanical means for less affected areas and herbicide control (Clearview) boom and spot spraying for agricultural areas. There will be more information to follow outlining the parameters for boom and spot spraying.

The second topic of the night surrounded the Community Official Plan (COP) with J.L. Richards, municipal planning consultant, on hand to answer questions. Council selected Scenario 2 which adheres to the minimum requirements as per the 2014 Provincial Policy Statement with an option to further examine and develop the COP policies including ecological linkages in ecoregion 6E. Information on the upcoming COP Open House dates, times, locations and topics can be found on our website under news and public notices, www.mississippimills.ca.

Ravenhill Group Inc. has been awarded the Request for Proposal for Executive Search Services for a Chief Administrative Officer. The recruitment process will begin shortly.
