Map and Schedule

The Municipality of Mississippi Mills offers a wide variety of on-going waste management programs, all designed to help reduce waste in the environment.  Along with weekly waste collection, the community participates in a curbside blue box recycling program.  In addition to regular pick-ups there are 3 Recycle and Waste Depots located within the municipality (refer to the Waste and Recycle Depot page for locations).  Mississippi Mills also participates in a Household Hazardous Waste Depot in co-operation with other Municipalities in Lanark County.  Residents who wish to dispose of large or bulky waste may do so through redeeming their Annual Landfill Pass for the Beckwith Transfer Station located at 9271 Cavanagh Road in Carleton Place.  Passes are mailed out on an annual basis to residents.  You can expect to receive yours in the month of August!

Tricks and Tips for Recycling:

Tip #1: It is best to lay a small piece of cardboard flat on top of other paper to keep them from blowing away.  It usually fits snuggly like an inside-lid!

Tip #2: Hand washing dishes? Use your leftover dishwater to wash recyclables when you're done - especially the tough ones like peanut butter, ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise and cheese spread - if it's dirty it cannot be recycled!

Tip #3: If you are short on space to set your blue boxes side by side, try the stacking cart. It's just like a "dollie" and makes it easier to take to the curb on recycle day! They are available at most department stores, or make your own!
