Can I sever my rural property?

The answer to this question depends on where your land is located. If your land is located in an area of good agricultural land, there is not likely a possibility for severance unless you are a farmer. If you land is not good farm land than it depends on how many severances have taken place in the past. The rule is that a property can have a maximum of two severances since July of 1973. There is also a unique severance option called モcluster lot developmentsヤ for rural properties over 50 acres in size. In all cases, you are encouraged to contact Stephen Stirling, Town Planner prior to submitting a severance application to the County of Lanark Land Division Committee.
